Verify Before You Buy: Spotting Dead Codes

SMART SHOPPING · 09 Aug, 26 · 5 min read · By the Clipwise editors

Team verifying offers together on a laptop

Nothing stings like a dead code at checkout. Our verification team retires hundreds of expired codes a month — here are the three checks they use, so you can shop with the same confidence.

Check the verification date

Every Clipwise card shows when its code was last tested. Prefer today’s verifications for limited-time events, and treat anything older than a month as a backup plan.

Read the exclusions line

Most “dead” codes were never valid for that basket — refurbished items, gift cards and marketplace sellers are the usual exclusions. The offer card states them before you reveal.

Watch stock caps

Percentage codes on popular lines carry redemption caps. If a code worked yesterday and fails today, the allocation likely ran out — switch to the next verified card rather than retrying.

When to report a code

If a freshly-verified code fails on an eligible basket, report it from the store page. Reports jump the queue and our team retests within hours.
